D.C. Retreat, a 2009 Total Residential Contracting Honorable Mention

For this lovely older home in Northwest DC, J&G was challenged to create front and rear landscapes that met the dual objectives of building a peaceful retreat from the stresses of Washington life and creating a lush, yet low maintenance solution that appealed to the busy homeowner. The resulting design incorporated a new flagstone front walkway, stone walls and steps, porch reconstruction and lush plantings in the front that complemented the stunning façade of the home. In the rear, a tight urban space was transformed into a private oasis complete with patio and water feature, hot tub, pergola and well-placed plantings that created screening and a sense of enclosure. In addition to creating this serene environment, the rear steps to the basement and supporting wall were replaced in natural stone that mirrored the other newly created hardscape areas. The homeowners and J&G were thrilled with the outcome!
